ESA, COES host 800 guests at E&S Day 2023

The Louisiana Tech Engineering and Science Association (ESA) and College of Engineering and Science (COES) hosted nearly 800 high school students and their teachers for Engineering and Science (E&S) Day 2023. These future high-school graduates were gathered together in the spirit of opportunity, growth, education, and, most importantly, a passion for engineering and science.
These students came from parishes as far south as Calcasieu to as near north as Ouachita for the opportunity to experience Louisiana Tech’s brand of engineering and science and take their next steps toward becoming STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professionals.
Engineering and Science Day has a rich tradition beginning more than 80 years ago when the College invited local high schools to campus to get a sneak preview of their possible future as Louisiana Tech students. Since then, the ESA has taken ownership of the event, coordinating everything from sending invitations to scheduling and recruiting student organizations to showcase what the College has to offer.
E&S Day 2023 included activities ranging from lab demonstrations by Tech students and teachers to hands-on activities and tours of labs. This effort gave these future Techsters a sneak preview of the amazing opportunities that await them when they join the College of Engineering and Science and Louisiana Tech.
COES Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies Dr. Heath Tims says that he’s proud of the work that the ESA and other student groups put in to making sure E&S Day was a success.
“This event is hosted by our current students to help future engineers and scientists understand what is possible. Our students do a great job of representing our college and showcasing the disciplines to future students.”
“Putting on this event was no small feat,” added ESA’s President Tamara Ozol. “This would not have been possible without the immense support of our ESA officers, ESA Freshman Council, COES organizations, countless student volunteers, and the Office of Undergraduate Studies, giving their time and energy to make this event what it has become today. It was the largest turnout for this event, and we were so excited to see all the students come and enjoy everything our organizations have to offer. It was so amazing to see E&S Day come to life. Being able to share and celebrate our College with prospective students is one of my favorite aspects of my role as president of our Engineering and Science Association. I can’t wait to see everything our organizations continue to do for our College!”
